Chemicals that are derived from oils and fats are known as oleochemicals. It is divided into two groups; natural oleochemicals, which often refers to vegetable and animal oils and fats derived oleochemicals, and synthetic oleochemicals which are derived from petroleum. Oils and fats composed of triglycerides formed from one molecule of glycerol and three molecules of fatty acids (Effigy 1). Hydrolysis of oils and fats to the corresponding fatty acids and glycerol, forms the basis of the oleochemical manufacture.

Oils and fats tin undergo hydrolysation using h2o or alcohols to produce fatty acids or esters and glycerol (Figure 2). In the product of fatty alcohols and fatty nitrogens, fatty acids or esters can be used as the starting cloth which after, can be further modified to produce various types of derivatives (Ismail et al., 2014). Hence, oleochemicals are often divided into two categories, namely, basic oleochemicals and derivatives. Fatty acids, fatty methyl esters, fatty alcohols, fatty amines and glycerol are examples of well-nigh common bones oleochemicals. On the other hand, oleochemical derivatives refer to products derived from basic oleochemicals via several chemic processes such as epoxidation, ethoxylation, sulfation and sulfonation. In the cosmetic industry, basic oleochemicals and derivatives are often used as emollients, humectants, emulsifiers, rheological additives and/or preservatives (Salmiah et al., 2004). Palm oil is one of the world's most ordinarily used vegetable oils primarily in food, but besides equally the dominant source of vegetable fat and oil in beauty and chemic products. Emollients

Emollients are some of the beginning ingredients used as cosmetics that are non compatible with h2o. It includes ingredients such as oils, butters, waxes, and esters. The prophylactic of palm oil products was assessed by The Corrective Ingredient Review (CIR) Skillful Panel on the basis of the creature and clinical data and concludes that palm oil and its derivatives are safe as used in cosmetic formulations (Johnson, 2000).

During the terminal xx years, the cosmetic and personal care industry has shifted from non-renewable sources (fossil-based) towards plant-based oils (Pletnev, 2003). The use of palm oil in cosmetics is identified to have the potential that will have a significant impact towards the palm oil industry. In Malaysia, it is estimated that the growth of cosmetics and personal care products market place increases at the rate of 5% per annum. Nowadays, in a knowledge-based community, consumers have the tendency to choose plant-derived cosmetics products over animal-based cosmetics products equally they believe that natural cosmetics are more than environmentally friendly. Due to religious consideration, some consumers are also more than inclined to apply a plant-based cosmetics product in contrast to tallow or lard-based products, which are not acceptable by Hindus and Muslims respectively.  Autonomously from that, an opportunity to create production differentiations likewise can be introduced by incorporating natural products such as palm-based oleochemicals into the cosmetic formulations in gild to capture a niche market.
